Yes I know there are a lot of synonyms flying around out there when it comes to Daycare and School Buses for Sale. Here is what they stand for:

• MFSAB – Multi-Function School Activity Bus
• NHTSA – National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
• FMVSS – Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards

Basically, most states have turned to laws that require that groups of preschool and school children to ride in MFSAB’s or school buses. Passenger vans or adult shuttle buses are no longer allowed. You may find that some counties interpret the laws differently, depending on who you talk to (who knows how long their interpretation will hold to the actual law). One morning you may find someone else sitting at their desk and have to replace your bus with a  MFSAB or School Bus. But if you read the actual law, it is very specific. Daycare, preschool, school and child aged groups have to be transported in MFSAB’s or School Buses. School buses are buses that are built to FMVSS for school buses. A “MFSAB” is a school bus without traffic control lights and stop arms that are seen on state run school buses.

What Makes a MFSAB and School Bus Safer?

FMVSS are very strict about how a school bus or MFSAB is built. A few of the main differences than regular buses or passenger vans are:

• MFSAB and School buses are built with sturdy steel roll cages that run from the floor on one side through the roof and to the floor on the other side. The roof has a rounded shape. These factors allow them to withstand a rollover without crushing.
• MFSAB and School buses are built with extra side impact protection, you will notice the double ridges molded into the steel body siding.
• MFSAB and School buses have seats that are “compartmentalized”. The seats have very high backs that are well padded on the front and rear. If there was a forward or reverse impact, the children are well protected

Be smart, if you have a Daycare, Preschool, Private school or children’s organization that transports children; buy a school bus or MFSAB. They are a 100 times safer and follow the letter of the law. The costs are almost equal to a van or adult bus.
